Summer Undergraduate/Graduate Internship Opportunity: Asheville

Thursday, April 27, 2017 - 2:55pm

Dr. Ali Climo is the coordinator for the Buncombe County Aging Plan, a comprehensive community strategic plan that addresses the needs of older adults.

The Buncombe County Aging Coordinating Consortium is currently engaged in developing the next (2018-2022) Aging Plan. They anticipate a summer full of surveys, focus groups, key informant interviews, and some data crunching. (The final plan will be presented to the Buncombe County Commissioners in November, so this opportunity could extend into the fall semester as well.)

This is a wonderful learning opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate student interested in aging, health, and/or community development. Dr. Climo's looking for a mature individual with strong interpersonal skills, listening skills, and some ability to enter simple survey data. She anticipates that this will entail 5-20 hours per week. The unpaid internship could start as early as May 5 and extend as late as August 31.

Activities include working with older adults to assess the community's urgent and pressing needs, as well the long-term need to make the community more "age-friendly." For more information, contact Dr. Ali Climo at 828-450- 8560 or
